Olivia Cole Domingo Has Arrived:)

Hello All, sorry to updated so late but having our little miracle turned into a bit of an adventure and after a week stay in the hospital and a busy week adjusting at home I finally have the chance to update you on Olivia's arrival.

On January 12, 2009 we arrived at the hospital at 6:15 am. At 6:45 we were taken to room 14 admitted got the IV all hooked up and had some blood drawn (I know I am doing crazy details but this is a great way to journal our experience to be able to share with Olivia later so I am writing it in complete detail) At 7:15 am they gave me cytotec and checked to see my progress I was at 2 cm dilation and 70% effaced. They brought me breakfast at 7:45am and I just had to stay in bed sort of resting because after the cytotec you can't get up and move around plus I was on fetal and contraction monitors and Olivia wasn't liking it so she kept moving around and going off monitor:) They also moved me to room 12 at this time, room 12 has a lift and because I may get an epidural they may need some help moving me so I got moved to room 12:)

I stayed in bed and rested and actually had a little nap till about 12 when I woke up I went for a bathroom break and got to take the monitors off for a few minutes and walk around. Came back to the room and Angel went to the cafeteria to get lunch and they had brought me mine so we had lunch together. After we started eating lunch they told me I wasn't allowed solid foods only fluids so I had apple juice. Our Dr. Dr. Steven Bloom came in at 12:30 to see how I was doing ans from 12 till 2 I had several small contractions then up for another bathroom break and off the monitors and at 2:30 they started me on Pitocin very slowly and between 2:30 and 3 I felt a couple of stronger contractions. At 4 they increased the Pitocin to 3mg/hr and the Contractions became little stronger, then they upped it to 4mg/hr got regular contractions lasting 60 sec every 3 minutes for a while then I had to change position because miss wiggle worm moved and got off monitor again and the contractions stopped. They increased the meds to 5mg/hr has some really quick contractions but then stopped again.

At 7pm my nurse Amy noticed the contractions were sporadic and upped the meds to 7mg/hr had stronger regular contractions again 60 sec every 2-3 min. apart. Dr. Bloom in again said things were going o.k. At 9:20 pm they checked me again to see how much progress I had made and I was still at 2 cm and effaced 80% so they stopped the pitocin and let me go off the monitors for a bit. I went for a good long walk and then had to have another dose of cytotec which meant more monitoring and having to stay in bed. They did say however that I could eat!! So dear husband made an A&W run and I got a nice hamburger which tasted delicious as I was so hungry:) I fell asleep around 12 dozing on and off but couldn't really get comfortable to get a solid sleep because they had to keep coming in and adjust the monitors because Miss Olivia wasn't co-operating:) Finally they hooked me up to the IV again for open fluids to try and get her to settle down, this of course made me have to go to the bathroom even more. I ended up sleeping for about 2 hours and I was really uncomfortable as i needed to have a BM in a big way ( I know too much information but it was all part of it and I want it documented so I apologize for the too much Info) I was also having some contractions on my own throughout the night so that didn't help with the sleeping thing.

Now during this whole time my husband is wonderful, getting me anything I need helping me with the contractions when they were getting stronger, helping me to the washroom and on my walks. He was making sure they didn't use the tape I am allergic to when they took blood or did the IV just really taking good care of me and thinking of things I never even thought of. He slept about 6 hours that night from 12 till 6. He was just so awesome very helpful, considerate, and encouraging.

In the morning my nurse Amy gave me an enema and I was so happy to use the bathroom, Dr. Bloom and Amy were my favorite people right then:) I then had a shower and got to go for a walk before then hooked me up to the monitors and pictocin again. At 7 I was back in bed being medicated and hooked up to monitors. Pitocin started at 7:20 at 4mg/hr then upped to 6mg/hr then upped again to 8mg/hr. I was now having good regular strong contractions throughout the morning. At 12 noon I got checked again and I was now 3 cm dilated and fully effaced. My IV had stopped working so the anesthesiologist came in to fix and they moved it from my left hand to my left thumb. She also took some time to talk to me about epidurals just in case I wanted one at any point in time. Dr. Bloom was in at 2:15 and tried to break my water but Olivia hadn't really dropped to where she needed to be to make that easy so he decided to come back later and try. Dr. said if things kept going then baby should be here tonight or early in the morning.

I had some great nurses during my stay here, Kathryn admitted me and was my nurse for Monday, Amy was my nurse Monday and Tuesday night and Sharon kept coming in periodically as well. Tuesday I had Verna and Sue as my nurses during the day and at this point I have been in labour since January 12, 2009 at 2 p.m.

Dr Bloom came back around 5:40 and broke my water. That was the weirdest feeling ever. It's like your peeing your pants but you have no control over it and couldn't stop it even if you wanted to:) It was a relief as well as the pressure is gone but of course every time you move more fluid comes out. Strangest thing. So for the rest of the evening we sat there I had contractions on and off and they were getting more and more painful. Because my water had been broke they did internal monitoring for contractions and heartbeat but of course my little wiggle worm got free from those a few times as well. The idea behind the internal monitors is they monitor better and you can get up and move around to go through your labour well I did that I got up and walked in the room and then did the birthing ball for a while, tried putting the bed up and leaning over during contractions just different positions we learned in our birthing class which was great than just sitting there, but once the monitors came off for the second time I was restricted to bed again, which of course wasn't helping the progression of my labour. Finally Dr. Bloom came in around 12:20 to see how things were going and to talk about the possibility of a c-section. The anesthesiologist had been in a couple times his name was Dr. Spilker to talk about epidural and see what I was thinking. I explained I wanted to go as long as I could and try to do it on my own, but because of my surgery in Nov.07 when they tried to do a epidural and couldn't get it to work and the possibility of a c-section he felt he would like to do 1 sooner rather than later in case there were any complications. So after discussing it with Dr. Bloom and Angel I got the epidural at 12:30 am January 14, 2009. It wasn't too bad I just sat up arching my back up hugging this chair thing and it never really hurt or anything, just a little sting and in a few minutes it was done and I was starting to go numb!! It worked!! Praise Jesus!! After the epidural I of course couldn't feel anything and monitoring her was easy as I couldn't move so I tried to get a couple hours sleep as did Angel. Now they were upping and pumping me good with that pitocin I believe it was at 18mg/hr at the end there so I was sure I was gonna be 4 cm she would have dropped and everything was gonna go as planned but at 3:00am Dr. Bloom came in and checked me and I was still just past 3 cm dilated and Olivia hadn't dropped at all so Dr. Bloom brought in Dr. Mora who would preform the c-section if we went that route. Dr. Mora checked me as well and found the same thing. Now all of us discussed the different scenarios of what to do now. We could continue as we were for another 12 hours or so understanding she may not drop and I may not progress all of this meaning a c-section anyway as well as they thought the reason she wasn't dropping was because she was bigger like 9 lbs or so and with my weight and all the meds they thought a c-section now might be the best and safest way to go, so then Dr. Mora left and we discussed it with Dr. Bloom and he was ready to do what we thought was best so Angel and I talked and based on their concerns etc we decided to have the c-section. Angel went out and told the doctors and came in to see me and I was crying and he panicked thinking I had changed my mind and didn't want the c-section but that wasn't it just knowing that in a little bit we were finally going to have our little girl was so overwhelming for me I was just feeling so excited and blessed.

So all of a sudden it was crazy Angel was getting dressed in scrubs and I was being given forms to sign and they were doing all this prep stuff. then they wheeled me into the operating room, Angel had to wait outside till they had me ready to go. I was able to move enough to get over to the table and then laid there while they did what they needed to and got all set up. The Anesthesiologist gave me the strong meds and then I could feel nothing and move nothing from my waist down. Dr. Mora and Dr. bloom were both there and Amy and Sharon my nurses were there too. A few other people I can't remember. Dr. Mora asked me how big I thought she might be I said 9lbs 3 oz he said, "No I think she will be at least 10 lbs" Then Angel came in and they started and within a few minutes our little girl had arrived.

Olivia Cole Domingo born January 14, 2009 at 4:21 a.m. at 8lbs 1 oz and 19 and 1/2 inches long!! I was crying and so excited to hear her cry, Angel was crying and I asked him, "Is she O.K.?" and "Is she brown?" He said, "she's fine and right now she's red so I can't tell!"

What an amazing experience and joyful day I will do another entry on how things went after she arrived and the rest of our week in the hospital and some highlights up till now but I think I have typed enough for now. Our miracle baby is here and she is beautiful and we are so in love with her!! God is so amazingly good!! What an awesome saviour we have!!

I posted some pictures here of the birth part and will add more with other entries:)
