Hello again, I will eventually get totally caught up but for now I will post and update for the first couple weeks of Miss Olivia's life.
After Olivia was born Angel got on the phone to call as many people as he could think of to tell them about our beautiful baby girl. I had made a calling list and told him before she arrived where it was but he got caught up in all the excitement and didn't stick to the list, I don't think he remembered that there was even a list, so for those of you he didn't call or didn't get a call till a couple days later I apologize:)
After the c-section I was feeling really sick to my stomach and just not great but I was so wanting visitors and people to see our girl and so at about 10:00 or 10:30 we started having visitors. Shannon came first and brought a beautiful book for Olivia, then Mima and Papa came, then we had Auntie Dana and Miss Rachel. Now I wasn't quite with it 100% during all the visits but I do remember being sick while Auntie Dana and Mima was there as they agreed to stay with us while Angel went home quick to have a shower and look after the kitty cats, sorry you guys:)
At about 2 o'clock I was feeling much better having been given a couple different shots for nausea so they moved us to our new room where we would stay for the remainder of our time there. Once we got settled they brought me a liquid dinner which was fine with me and my stomach then we got more visitors. Auntie Candy showed up, Auntie Cheryl and Uncle Jeff with Kenny, Auntie Kim and Uncle Howie came in and then Olivia's favorite Uncle, Uncle Vincent showed up and held her! Vince was so proud of her he kept saying she was beautiful and he was really proud of us:) That was a long day and we weren't sure how our night was gonna go so by 8:30 everyone left and it was just the three of us again.
Now for the rest of the hospital stay I will do point form so we are all caught up but not bored to death so here it goes:)
- Olivia's temp was low for the first 24 hours but then went back to normal
- She weighed 8lbs 1 oz when born, went down to 7 lbs 10oz on the 15th, then 7lbs 6 oz on the 16th, then 7lbs 4 oz on the 17th, then up to 7lbs 7 oz on Sunday the 18th.
- She peed and pooped like a champ right from the time she was born!!
- Discovered she was jaundice on the 16th so they took her to the nursery for some blood work, Mommy and Daddy didn't do very well during this time, it was our first time away from her:( Levels weren't high enough she needed treatment but wanted to keep an eye on her for 24 hours. Her levels dropped after that and she was fine.
- Lactation nurse came in on Friday the 16th and said she wasn't latching properly and suggested we supplement her to help with the jaundice. We had to use a crazy contraption that hung from my glasses with a tube inserted into a nipple guard for a week, then switched to bottle. I pumped and did skin to skin with her and took herbs and tried everything I could for the first 2 weeks but my milk never came in so we are bottle feeding her.
- Got released from the hospital on the 18th and went to Wendy's and Christ The King so we could show her off a bit then home with our beautiful new baby girl:)
- Nurse came in for 2 visits the first week and helped with feeding ideas and suggestions and her general health, her weight was up to 7lbs 9 oz Said Olivia and I were doing great. I did have a total melt down on the second visit from the nurse as I was realizing my milk wasn't coming in and probably wouldn't, but she totally understood and was so great about everything:)
- We went to our small group on the 19th and they loved holding her and spending time with her. We have gone on a few outings to the store and to church and she loves the car seat and sleeps through anything, including loud worship time at church!! She really is a good girl.
- She sleeps at night for 3 to 4 hours a time and same during the day with a little more awake time and she seems to only cry when she really needs something so we are really blessed.
So all in all it has been an adventurous, wonderful, challenging, emotional but totally amazing first 2 weeks of Olivia's life. We love her more than any words can say and we thank you all so much for your love and support. God gave us a miracle and although our family isn't as involved as we would like God has also blessed us with amazing friends who love Olivia and want to be her family. Thank you so much Jeff and Cheryl, Todd and Dana, Sam and Shannon, Jerrod and Rachel, Howie and Kim, Joel and Maryanne it means more to us than you'll ever know, you are a blessing to us and our new family:)
I added some pictures from the first 2 weeks and then I will post for the next 4. Olivia is 6 weeks already I can't believe it!!

She's sooooo pretty!
Don't feel bad - for some people it takes up to two weeks for milk to come in. You didn't do anything wrong. <3 It's just one of those things! And yeah, those supplementation systems are WEIRD looking. Gabe was jaundiced too, enough so for a four-day hospital stay, so I feel your pain there - it's SO hard to be away from them!
Six weeks already, huh? The time passes SO fast! And she's GORGEOUS! The time passes so quickly, doesn't it?
Keep up with the pictures when you can!
You have a beautiful family! Your daughter is so beautiful! Congratulations to you both. I found your blog via the link you posted on the OPSS-L yahoo group.
